Shaping the psychology of cities. Sharing the knowledge to build healthier urban futures.
Behavioural Urbanism
We examine how urban design shapes human behaviour, decision-making, and daily experiences. By integrating behavioural science with urban planning, we aim to create evidence-based design interventions that promote well-being, equity, and sustainability.
Research Focus Areas:
- Behavioural Patterns in Cities Using urban ethnography and digital tracking to understand how people navigate and use urban spaces.
- Human-Centered Urban Design Applying psychological insights to develop safer, more accessible, and user-friendly urban spaces.
- Behavioural Nudges & Urban Experiments Testing interventions that encourage positive behaviours (e.g., active transportation, social interaction, energy conservation).
- Designing for Urban Equity Ensuring urban spaces promote inclusivity and reduce social disparities through behavioural design.
Applied Urban Action:
- Behavioural Observatories: Monitoring how people engage with urban spaces in real time.
- Urban Test Beds: Implementing pilot projects (e.g., redesigning public spaces to encourage sustainable commuting).
- Nudge-Based Interventions: Deploying evidence-based strategies such as visual cues, spatial layouts, and public messaging to improve urban behavior.
