Urban Mental Health & Well-being
We investigate how urban environments influence psychological health and develop strategies to integrate mental well-being into city planning. Our work bridges research, urban interventions, and policy action to ensure cities actively promote mental health.
Research Focus Areas:
- Urban Stress & Mental Health: Identifying how urban stressors (e.g., overcrowding, noise, air pollution) impact psychological well-being through field research and biometric studies.
- Designing for Well-being: Developing and testing urban design interventions (e.g., green spaces, quiet zones, walkable areas) that enhance mental health.
- Social Connectivity & Place Attachment: Conducting participatory research to understand how urban environments shape social bonds and designing interventions that reduce isolation.
- Mental Health Equity & Policy Innovation: Engaging with policymakers to integrate mental health considerations into urban governance, focusing on marginalized communities.
Applied Urban Action:
- Live Urban Labs: Testing interventions such as “mental well-being zones” in urban spaces.
- Psychological Audits of Cities: Partnering with planners and psychologists to assess cities based on their impact on mental health.
- Policy Prototypes: Developing frameworks for embedding urban mental health strategies into city planning.
